Our Story
Mountain View Dance Academy opened in Cochrane in 2016 under the direction of Chaela Houston-Truman. After teaching and working in several studios for many years, Miss Chaela set out to achieve her lifelong dream of opening a dance school that was friendly and inclusive. We started out small, offering high quality recreational dance classes in the Frank Wills Memorial Hall and have expanded each year to now offer a full recreational and competitive division at the studio. Miss Chaela is known for her warm, friendly nature, her keen eye for technique and her desire to focus on the well-being of all students at the studio. Our instructors are hand-picked by Miss Chaela for their dance background, professionalism, & upstanding personalities to ensure all students are taught in a safe, encouraging and positive environment. We actively promote inclusivity and work with our students on positive body image, self-esteem, and coach them in the discipline needed to be a dancer and positive member of the community. We have seen how dance can change lives and are so grateful to share our passion and love for dance and the arts with our students!
Classes offered at MVDA include Ballet, Tap, Acro Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, & Hip Hop. We offer programming for ages 1.5 to 18 years as well as some great Adult classes. We have something for everyone with short term sessions & camps as well as Full Year classes that participate in our year end Recital! Our Nutcracker Camps and Performances each December are such a hit for recreational and full year students alike. We offer Royal Academy of Dance Ballet Exams as well as Acrobatic Arts Acro Exams for students when they are ready and also have a wonderful, inclusive Competitive Division for students that wish to have more training and performance opportunities throughout the year.
Our Studio
Our beautiful studio is located in the East Wing of the Frank Wills Memorial Hall in Cochrane, Alberta. We have two dance studios featuring professionally sprung, non slip dance flooring, wall barres & mirrors, and high quality sound system. We have ample parking in front of and behind the building, three large washrooms, a lobby for parents, a front desk & cubbies and hooks for dancers upstairs.

Mama Movement
Build your mama community, get a workout in and we'll include a one of a kind music and dance based child-minding experience for your kids at the same time!
This class is for busy mamas. Bring your littles with you, we'll keep them safe and happy with an early childhood dance and music class while you meet other mamas in a tailored post natal barre fitness class. You and your kids will leave feeling refreshed.
Yes, you can still come if your kids are already school age (or older ;). Mamas of all ages and stages are welcome. Homeschool children are welcome in our child minding as well. Email to inquire.
Barre class is taught by Royal Academy of Dance and Barre Body Studio certified instructor, Chaela (mom of a 3 & 1 year old). Can't wait to meet you!

Parent & Tot
Parented (or caregiver) class. This class is especially for your busy little baby / tot who is on the go and exploring the world around them. This parented class will explore creative movement and sensory exercises, song and dance, rhymes and free dancing to nurture your tot’s developing gross motor skills, emotional expression, and social development. You and your tot will love making friends and socializing with others in this fun class.
For the busy tot on the go! Dance, creative movement, songs and rhymes to nurture your tots early social, emotional, and cognitive development.
Comfortable clothing the dancer can move freely in. Bare feet or grip socks.
Families with more than one child in the age range are welcome to bring both children.

Our top notch performance program runs from September to June. Students will improve their dance technique over the year and perform a recital dance in our year end Recital in June.

We are known for our excellent 10 week sessional classes at the studio. Enroll in the Fall, Winter or Spring (or all 3) for 10 weeks of dance classes. Great for students new or returning to dance who don't wish to perform.

NEW short term program for students who want to perform! Register from Sept to Dec and learn a dance to perform in our annual Nutcracker show on Dec 16. Register from Jan to June and learn a dance to perform in our annual year end recital in June. Costume rental is included in class fee.

Nutcracker Camp
Competitive Division
Super short and festive camps for students who want to learn choreography and perform in our annual Nutcracker show on Dec 16. Camps run once a week for 4 weeks OR an intensive 4 days prior to the show. Costume rental is included in camp fee.

Positive and inclusive team for dancers 5 & up who wish to perform more throughout the year. We attend 3 Alberta competitions in April & May where our team is adjudicated by professionals. Great opportunity for learning and growth.
